The number of patients you see with diabetes will continue to increase and your knowledge and skills can help those patients learn to live with this disease in a healthy way. Holding the Certified Diabetes Educator® (CDE®) credential shows you have taken the extra steps to 1) verify that you have knowledge your patients need to effectively manage their diabetes, and 2) maintain that knowledge base through renewal of your credential every 5 years.

Since 1986, nurses, dietitians, physicians, pharmacists and other healthcare providers have used the CDE® credential to gain recognition from colleagues and patients and enhance their credibility. It is a highly respected credential in the healthcare industry.

As a CDE®, you demonstrate that you are knowledgeable and distinguish yourself from other educators.

We are so glad that you are a member of this community of more than 18,400 Certified Diabetes Educators.

Thank you for choosing to become a CDE®. When you have a chance, we hope you will:

  • Visit and become a fan of our facebook page so you can communicate with other CDEs and receive updates from NCBDE.
  • Let your community and/or employer know if you’ve recently become certified or renewed by exam or renewed your certification by continuing education by using one of a sample news releases available.
  • Make a note to check the “News” section of our site on occasion. This section can provide you with current and historical information on the CDE program.
  • Take some time to review the various pages in the Currently Certified section of the web site to obtain information on things such as renewal of your certification and the mentorship program.
  • Visit the CDE Only area of the site for the ability to track your continuing education hours a bit more easily, review issues of the NCBDE News, and obtain order forms for duplicate wallet cards and certificates, and access to certificate frame details. In addition, this area contains the “find a CDE” profile. Once you complete the profile, people living with diabetes find you and your program through our web site.
