IMPORTANT 2009 EXAMINATION ANNOUNCEMENTS

07/2008; updated 9/2008

NCBDE is pleased to announce that, beginning in 2009, the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators will be computer-based. The Examination will continue to be administered twice a year, in the spring (beginning in May) and fall (beginning in November), but there will now be extended testing periods for both administrations, during which approved candidates will be able to schedule appointments to take the examination on a date of their choosing. Applied Measurement Professionals ("AMP"), NCBDE’s professional testing agency, has multiple testing locations across the country where the Examination can be taken; trained proctors will be available to assist with the process. An added benefit of the computer-based testing format is that score reports will be available at the conclusion of the testing session*.

*Note, however, that when computer-based testing initially becomes available (spring 2009), prior to final scoring, all candidate scores and the passing point will be reviewed to ensure accuracy. Because this information will not be finalized when computer-based testing begins, AMP will not be able to initially release examination scores or pass/fail status at the conclusion of the testing session. Every effort will be made to mail score reports approximately 8 weeks after the date tested, but no later than 8 weeks after the final date of the test administration window.

Also in 2009, individuals will have the option of applying for the examination on-line. The traditional method of submitting a paper application will continue to be available.

Further information about the computer-based testing process as well as the on-line application option will be posted on the website as it becomes available. NCBDE is excited about these changes and anticipates that they will increase the ease and flexibility of both applying for and taking the examination.
