  • Reminder: Appointments at test centers are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The 2018 exam application window closes on December 31, 2018; the 2019 exam application window opens on January 1, 2019.
  • Be sure to review the 2018 Exam Handbook for the details on the application and testing appointments. For those applying beginning January 1, 2019, the 2019 Exam Handbook with pertinent details will be available mid-December, 2018.

To obtain the hard copy version of the 2019 Handbook, submit a request (be sure to include your mailing address) by telephone, facsimile, or e-mail to NCBDE's testing agency, PSI/AMP. It will be mailed to you upon publication (mid to late December). There is no fee for the handbook and application.

There are two ways** to apply for the Examination‡:

**Refer to Examination Handbook for the details on who can apply online and who must apply using the paper application method. In addition, individuals who do not wish to use their social security number as an identifier must apply using the paper application and include a note to this effect. A unique identifying number will be assigned to you when your application is processed.

Ways to Apply

1. Online Application and Scheduling: Complete the application and scheduling process in one online session by clicking here to access the online application process. To begin, use the "Register for this Exam" menu option found at the bottom of the screen or click on “Candidates,” and follow the online instructions. [Note: Certified Diabetes Educators or those individuals whose credentials have expired must have their CDE/certificate numbers available at the time of registration.]

2. Paper Application and Scheduling: Complete and submit to PSI. You can find the paper application in the Examination Handbook. If applying via paper application mail the application, appropriate documentation, and all required fees to:

               Write "NCBDE" in the upper left corner of the envelope under your return address.
               Review the "Adherence to Published Policies" section on page 10 of the Handbook for additional mailing information.
               Applications are to be sent ONLY to PSI/AMP. Do not fax applications to PSI/AMP.
