Exam Content Outline Update in July 2019

No more than every five years, NCBDE conducts a practice analysis, also known as a job analysis, to be certain that the Certification Examinations for Diabetes Educators continue to reflect current practice in diabetes education. The purpose of the analysis was to describe the diabetes educator’s job with enough detail to provide a valid basis for a practice-related certification examination for diabetes educators and to define areas that should be assessed in future examinations.

NCBDE contracted with PSI, Inc. (PSI) to facilitate the 2018 analysis. A task force of Certified Diabetes Educators, who represented the various disciplines and professions eligible for certification and who are content experts, were convened to ensure that expert knowledge and judgment were available to PSI as the analysis proceeded. The analysis involves a survey to determine the activities necessary for thorough and effective practice as a diabetes educator and the significance of the activities.

Many thanks to the CDEs and other diabetes educators who took the time to complete the extensive survey. With the survey results in hand, the analysis was completed and an updated examination content outline was approved to go into use on July 1, 2019. Click here to review the outline.
