NCBDE Announces New Chair and Board Members Starting 2018

New Chair Announced for 2018
JBardsleyphotocropJoan Bardsley, MBA, RN, CDE®, FAADE, began service on the NCBDE Board of Directors in 2016 and starts in her role as Chair of the NCBDE Board on January 1, 2018. Joan is currently Assistant Vice President of Nursing and Clinical Integration for MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI) and MedStar Corporate Nursingm, Hyattsville, Maryland. She has been a CDE® since the first exam was administered in October 1986.

New Board Members Begin Service in 2018
At their fall meeting, four individuals were elected by the NCBDE Board of Directors (Board) to serve in open Board positions. Jasmine D. Gonzalvo, PharmD, BCPS, BC-ADM, CDE®, LDE, Allyson Jackson, RD, CDE®, Carol Rasmussen, MSN, NP-C, CDE®, FAADE, and Benjamin H. Klein, BS, have been elected to serve as members of the NCBDE Board of Directors. Mr. Klein will serve in the role of Public Member on the Board. Their four-year terms begin on January 1, 2018.

Dr. Gonzalvo, Indianapolis, Indiana, has held the Certified Diabetes Educator® (CDE®) credential since 2009. She is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in the College of Pharmacy at Purdue University and Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Ms. Jackson, Eastvale, California, has worked extensively providing diabetes education and Medical Nutrition Therapy to underserved populations since 2002.
Ms. Jackson is currently employed as a Registered Dietitian with CareMore Medical Group, an Anthem Company, in Los Angeles, California, and has held the CDE® credential since 2013.

Ms. Rasmussen, Tabiona, Utah, has held the CDE® credential since 2009. She is currently a Family Nurse Practitioner, with a specialty in diabetes at Exodus Healthcare in Magna Utah.

NCBDE’s newest Public Member, Mr. Klein is from Boston, Massachusetts, and is currently a Director at Human Care Systems, managing a large-scale diabetes support program. He previously worked at a diabetes technology startup and began his career at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.

Dr. Gonzalvo and Ms. Rasmussen served on NCBDE’s Credentials Committee prior to their election to the NCBDE Board of Directors.

With their election, they join six CDE® Directors currently serving on the organization’s Board. As of January 1, 2018, the Board will also include:
